SAGINAW, Mich. – Mid-Michigan residents experienced a dreary Thursday, and while Friday is expected to be milder, wet weather is on the horizon. The region is facing its first severe weather outlooks of the season, with alerts issued for Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, as well as later Saturday. Although both outlooks indicate lower-end risks, officials stress the importance of being prepared for potential severe weather.

Friday’s forecast shows the day starting off dry, but clouds will linger throughout. The presence of clouds might hinder the development of storm energy, which has been identified as a significant factor affecting severe weather threats over the next couple of days. A warm front is expected to move through Friday afternoon, leading to possible scattered rain and thunderstorms beginning around 3 PM.

Temperatures on Friday are projected to reach the 50s for some areas, while northern locations may remain in the 40s. Winds will be from the southeast at 5 to 15 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 25 miles per hour. The key focus for Friday evening will be the intensity of the anticipated thunderstorms. If enough storm energy is generated, conditions could become conducive for stronger storms with potential wind gusts of 60 MPH, hail of 1 inch or larger, and heavy rain.

The severe weather risk will continue into Saturday morning before a new outlook takes over throughout the day. Saturday will see temperatures climb into the 60s, accompanied by strong winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts potentially hitting 30 to 40 miles per hour. While clouds will dominate the sky for much of the day, there is hope for a glimpse of sunshine before the sun sets, coinciding with the seasonal shift as clocks are set ahead.

As the region prepares for the upcoming weather changes, residents are encouraged to stay informed and alert. Regular updates will be provided as more information becomes available, ensuring communities remain safe and aware of any developing weather conditions.
