MID-MICHIGAN – A significant cold front is prompting several school districts across Mid-Michigan to cancel classes for Tuesday, as temperatures are expected to plunge into dangerous levels. The weather pattern is particularly severe in the Thumb region, where frigid wind chills are set to create a deep freeze.
On Monday night, the Storm Alert Wx Team predicts that wind chills could plummet to as low as -7 to -17 degrees, with actual air temperatures descending into the single digits. At such low temperatures, frostbite risks escalate quickly, with skin exposed to the elements potentially suffering damage within just 30 minutes.
In response to the severe conditions, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entirety of Mid-Michigan, effective from Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday.
