Microsoft is currently addressing issues with its Microsoft 365 service and the Teams application, as numerous users have reported difficulties with services like Exchange and Outlook. Early Monday, Microsoft communicated via social media platform X regarding the situation, noting that they are evaluating “an issue impacting users attempting to access Exchange Online or functionality within Microsoft Teams calendar.” Reports suggest that this problem is affecting Microsoft users around the world.

The tech giant identified a recent change that it believes has contributed to the disruption and is in the process of reverting that change while exploring further measures to resolve the issue. Microsoft 365, a subscription-based suite that includes applications such as Word and Excel along with cloud storage, has received a flurry of complaints, although DownDetector, an outage reporting service, reflected only a few dozen reports initially.

The University of Galway confirmed their awareness of the situation, stating that it is affecting various Microsoft 365 services globally, including Outlook and Teams, and that Microsoft is proactively investigating the problem.

The issues began around 4 a.m. Eastern Time, with reports escalating to about 2,000 by 10 a.m. Meanwhile, users expressed on social media their frustrations, especially regarding Outlook, citing difficulties with connecting and sending emails. Some mentioned interruptions accessing OneDrive files stored in the cloud.

At 9 a.m. Eastern Time, Microsoft indicated that it was working on a fix but did not provide a specific timeframe for resolution. The company announced that it had commenced deploying a fix and was undertaking manual restarts on certain affected machines.

Although disruptions of this nature can be frustrating, it is reassuring to see Microsoft acknowledging the issues promptly and mobilizing efforts to rectify them. This proactive approach exemplifies the importance of maintaining customer communication and addressing challenges in real-time.
