Michigan’s general election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025, and voters should be prepared with key information for a smooth voting experience.

Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, allowing ample time for in-person voting. Residents can register to vote up until 8 p.m. on Election Day at their city or township clerk’s office. The Michigan Voter Information Center serves as a valuable resource for voters to verify their registration status and identify their designated polling locations.

While it is not necessary to bring a voter registration card to the polls, voters should ensure they are at the correct location as their name will be included on the registration list provided to each precinct. If individuals have moved within 60 days of the election and have not registered at their new address, they can still vote at their former address.

Voters will be required to show identification when checking in. Acceptable forms of ID include a Michigan driver’s license or state ID (even if expired), IDs issued by other states, federal or state government IDs, a U.S. passport, military IDs, educational institution IDs, and tribal IDs. Voters without an ID can still cast their ballot by signing a form affirming they do not possess one.

It’s important to note that Michigan has long prohibited the display of election-related materials in polling places. This includes clothing, buttons, and other promotional items associated with candidates or political parties. Voters wearing such items may be asked to cover or remove them before voting.

For those voting absentee, ballots must be received by the local clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Absentee ballots can be hand-delivered or submitted through secure drop boxes. Voters can track the status of their ballot through the Michigan Voter Information Center.

In case of an emergency on Election Day that prevents someone from reaching their polling place, they may request an emergency absent voter ballot. This request must be made after the typical deadline for regular absentee ballots but before 4 p.m. on Election Day.

Voters who wish to change their absentee ballot after submitting it can do so by submitting a written request to their city or township clerk. They have options to receive a new ballot if required, provided they act within designated timeframes.

Once the polls close, election results will be available for tracking on the Michigan Voter Information Center.

This election presents an opportunity for citizens to engage actively in the democratic process. As the date approaches, it is essential for voters to stay informed about the requirements and options available to them.
