The 49-year-old actress revealed that she used to remove her heels to avoid being taller than her male co-stars, but that is no longer the case. “I’m not going to take my shoes off for anybody,” she stated firmly, highlighting a significant shift in the industry’s expectations for actresses.
Monaghan reflected on a scene from the 2010 Sofia Coppola film “Somewhere,” where her character had to contend with the height difference with Stephen Dorff’s character, Johnny Marco. She remembered an apple box being used to elevate him, indicating the traditional Hollywood standards that often dictate how actresses present themselves. “There was a period in my career where that was expected of actresses, but now I think they just know better, which is probably a good thing,” she explained.
Currently, she stars alongside Mark Wahlberg in “The Family Plan 2,” which premiered on Apple TV on November 21. This sequel brings back their characters, Dan and Jessica, from the original film, which gained popularity in 2023. The sequel, set during the holiday season, follows Dan’s ambition to enjoy a family vacation abroad, until a mysterious figure from his past complicates matters.
