Miami’s MLS Comeback: Can They Bounce Back Against Struggling Montreal?

Inter Miami CF is set to return to Major League Soccer action after a disappointing exit from the FIFA Club World Cup, where they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. This Saturday, they will face CF Montreal, marking their first MLS game since May 31 and the beginning of a congested schedule with seven matches in 25 days, including four in the next 11 days.

Despite their recent setback, Miami has shown promise in the league, going 2-1-2 in their last five MLS fixtures before the Club World Cup. This includes a victory against Montreal on May 28. Miami currently sits seventh in the Eastern Conference with a record of 8-3-5, totaling 29 points. Coach Javier Mascherano highlighted the importance of squad depth, stating, “Clearly, we have a lot of games coming up, so we will need everyone to participate.” Star player Lionel Messi is available for selection, although injuries will sideline midfielders Yannick Bright and David Ruiz, along with defender Gonzalo Lujan.

On the other hand, CF Montreal, which has struggled this season with a record of 3-12-5 and only 14 points, is looking to build on their first home win of the season, a narrow 1-0 victory over New York City FC. Midfielder Victor Loturi, who scored in that match, expressed hope for continued improvement. Montreal, despite being at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, is motivated to find their footing, as midfielder Samuel Piette noted that their gameplay has remained consistent even in losses.

Both teams are eager for points, with Inter Miami aiming to climb back up the standings and Montreal striving to turn their season around. This clash presents an opportunity for Miami to gain momentum and for Montreal to establish a foothold at home.

The competitive spirit between these teams sets the stage for an exciting match, and both sides are eager to secure valuable points that could influence their standings in the league as they continue their respective campaigns.
