Former Georgia offensive tackle Jamal Meriweather has made the decision to transfer to Miami after entering the NCAA Transfer Portal, as reported by On3’s Pete Nakos. As a redshirt sophomore, Meriweather will retain two years of eligibility while contributing to the Hurricanes’ offensive line.

Meriweather played in 15 games over the last two seasons at Georgia, including 12 games last season where he served as an important reserve lineman. In addition, he saw action in three games during his redshirt freshman year against Clemson, Tennessee Tech, and UMass.

Standing at 6 feet 7 inches and weighing 305 pounds, Meriweather was originally signed by Georgia as a three-star recruit from Brunswick (Ga.) High School in the Class of 2023. He was recognized as the 38th offensive tackle and ranked 62nd among players in Georgia, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking.

With Meriweather’s transfer, he becomes the 14th Georgia player to enter the portal since it opened on January 2, and he is also the third offensive lineman from the Bulldogs to do so. Notable teammates Nyler Daniels and Bo Hughley, who recently committed to Colorado, have also entered the portal alongside Meriweather.

In addition to Meriweather, Miami has recently added former Missouri and Georgia pass rusher Damon Wilson II to bolster its defensive front. Wilson, a highly regarded five-star recruit, brings with him impressive stats from his season at Missouri, where he made 23 tackles, recorded 9.5 tackles for loss, and contributed nine sacks. These two transfers represent Miami’s aggressive strategy to reload its roster in pursuit of returning to the College Football Playoff.

Meriweather’s addition signals a concerted effort by Miami to enhance their offensive line and improve their competitiveness in the upcoming season. As they establish new team dynamics, the Hurricanes are focused on evolving their roster for success in the future.
