Four-star quarterback Israel Abrams committed to the Miami Hurricanes on Friday, announcing his decision live on The Pat McAfee Show and becoming the cornerstone of Miami’s 2027 recruiting class. The Arlington Heights, Illinois native picked the Hurricanes over finalists Kentucky, Auburn, Florida State and Purdue, capping a rapid recruitment that saw Miami extend a scholarship offer and host him on an official visit just days earlier.
Abrams, a 247Sports composite four-star prospect, is rated as the No. 44 player nationally and the No. 3 quarterback in the 2027 cycle, and is the No. 2 prospect from Illinois. He is Miami’s eighth commitment for the class and his pledge immediately vaulted the Hurricanes up the rankings — from No. 12 entering the day to No. 7 nationally and to the top spot among Atlantic Coast Conference classes.
The 6-foot-varsity quarterback at Montini Catholic (note: height not specified by recruiting services) emerged as a breakout recruit after an outstanding junior season in which he led Montini to a perfect 14-0 record and a state championship. Abrams completed 68.5 percent of his passes for 4,072 yards, threw 40 touchdowns against six interceptions, and added 10 rushing touchdowns. He earned MaxPreps Junior All-American honors for his performance.
Miami’s coaching staff, led by Mario Cristobal, moved quickly to secure Abrams, hosting him on Tuesday and closing the recruitment within days. The Hurricanes have already loaded the offensive side of the board for the 2027 cycle, including the addition of five-star wide receiver Nick Lennear, the No. 12 player nationally, and staff members described Abrams as a player who can grow with that receiving talent.
Abrams’ commitment addresses a key area for Miami as the program seeks to restock the quarterback room with high-end talent. As the class-building process continues, Abrams brings both high school production and rising national profile to a Miami group that now sits among the country’s top recruiting classes for the 2027 cycle.
The coming months will reveal how Abrams transitions to college-level preparation and how he fits into Miami’s depth chart when he arrives on campus. For now, Miami claims one of the most sought-after juniors in the Midwest, adding a polished, productive passer to a class that the Hurricanes hope will be a foundation for future on-field success.
