In response to questions about regional support for Venezuela, Sheinbaum reiterated her call for the UN to step up its involvement in international disputes, advocating for dialogue and peaceful resolutions rather than interventions. She highlighted the need for the UN to fulfill its role in resolving conflicts, suggesting that diplomatic engagements should be prioritized among nations.
Weeks earlier, Sheinbaum voiced similar sentiments, stressing that any international controversy should be resolved through discussion rather than military actions. She also pointed out that her administration’s stance stems from conviction and constitutional provisions, irrespective of views regarding the Venezuelan government led by President Nicolás Maduro.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration continues to exert pressure on the Maduro regime by implementing sanctions and blockades on key resources. Recent reports indicate that this pressure has forced the Maduro government to reduce oil production in the Orinoco Belt by at least 25%, impacting the country’s overall output significantly. Such measures have resulted in the Venezuelan regime shuttering oil wells due to a lack of storage capacity.
Additionally, there have been military actions against alleged drug trafficking operations in Venezuela. A recent U.S. military strike targeted a vessel reportedly engaged in narco-trafficking, leading to two fatalities, contributing to a rising death toll linked to ongoing military operations in the region.
