Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has responded to growing concerns surrounding ticket transparency for the upcoming BTS concerts in Mexico City, labeling the event a “historic” moment for the nation.
During a press briefing, Sheinbaum expressed her enthusiasm for the renowned K-pop group’s return, noting their immense popularity among young people in Mexico. “It is a very famous Korean group that young people love. It is great that they are coming because it was a historic request from Mexican youth,” she said.
BTS is set to embark on a major world tour, their first in four years, with three performances scheduled in Mexico on May 7, 9, and 10 at Estadio GNP Seguros. This venue, which accommodates around 60,000 attendees, is a prestigious location for international artists and has previously hosted stars like Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift. Additionally, it has recently become a popular venue for K-pop events, with BLACKPINK and TWICE also slated to perform there in the coming years.
Despite the excitement, frustrations have arisen regarding ticket sales. Although Ticketmaster and local promoter OCESA have announced concert dates, details about ticket prices and purchasing processes remain unclear just as the presale period approaches. This has led to significant discontent among fans, who have taken to social media to voice their concerns.
In response, President Sheinbaum acknowledged the fans’ frustrations, leading to direct action from the government. Ivan Escalante Ruiz, head of Mexico’s Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office, confirmed the government’s initiative to enhance transparency in the ticket sales process. “Today, we are sending a formal request to the provider to compel them to be transparent about everything the fans are asking for,” Escalante stated, also emphasizing the request for clarity on ticket allocation percentages.
This proactive engagement from government officials reflects a commitment to ensuring that the excitement surrounding BTS’s historic concerts is matched by transparency and fairness in ticket sales.
