The Mexican women’s national team is set to face Uruguay in their second friendly match on Tuesday at the Tlahuicole Stadium in Tlaxcala. The squad will feature players Jasmine Casarez and Annia Mejía from the Bravas de Juárez, both of whom were starters in the previous match against Uruguay last Friday, where Casarez scored a goal and assisted in the 2-2 draw.
In the first friendly, the Mexican team took control from the very first whistle, reaping their rewards just 20 minutes in when Casarez outpaced defenders along the right flank, delivering a cross that was headed in by former Brava Mayra Delgadillo. With the locals leading 1-0, both teams headed to halftime.
Just ten minutes into the second half, Charlyn Corral of Tuzas del Pachuca surged down the left side, sending a dangerous service that Casarez converted at the far post, doubling Mexico’s lead to 2-0 in front of an enthusiastic crowd of over 17,000 at the Estadio Olímpico de la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla.
However, the joy was short-lived for the Mexican side. At the 60th minute, Uruguay’s Stephanie Lacoste delivered a free kick from the left flank that was mishandled by goalkeeper Celeste Espino, allowing Uruguay to score their first goal. Later, a goal by Corral was disallowed for offside, and in the 80th minute, Cinthia Pamela González executed a free kick that found its way past the wall and Espino for the equalizer at 2-2.
This upcoming match provides an opportunity for the Mexican team to build on their performance and strengthen their game against a competitive opponent. It’s an exciting time for women’s soccer in Mexico, as the team continues to develop and garner support from fans across the nation.
The match serves not only as a chance for the players to showcase their skills but also as a platform to inspire budding athletes in the region. Engaging in competitions like these is crucial for fostering growth in women’s sports, showing that progress is being made in providing equal opportunities in athletics.
