Mets’ Season Ends in Heartbreaking Game 6 Loss to Dodgers

The Mets’ remarkable journey through the 2024 season came to an end in Los Angeles, where they lost to the Dodgers 10-5 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. A crowd of 52,674 at Dodger Stadium witnessed the Mets’ defeat, ending their hopes for a World Series appearance.

Despite a memorable season filled with standout moments such as Francisco Lindor’s grand slam in Atlanta and Pete Alonso’s decisive home run in Milwaukee, the Mets were unable to overcome the Dodgers, who dominated the National League with a league-best 98 wins during the regular season.

The upcoming World Series will feature a fierce matchup between the Dodgers and the Yankees, set to kick off on Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

This season will be remembered for the energy and excitement surrounding the Mets, marked by moments like Jose Iglesias’ enthusiastic “OMG” and quirky team traditions. After forcing a Game 6 with a 12-6 victory in Game 5, the Mets faced an uphill battle against the strong Dodgers team.

The Dodgers took an early lead, scoring five runs off Sean Manaea, highlighted by Tommy Edman’s two-run double and home run, putting the Mets down 6-1 by the third inning. The Mets struggled to recover, despite Mark Vientos’ two-run homer that briefly cut the deficit to 6-3.

Kodai Senga, pitching in relief, was tagged for three runs in the eighth inning, including an RBI double from Mookie Betts and a sacrifice fly by Teoscar Hernandez, extending the Dodgers’ lead to 10-4. Although Francisco Alvarez added a sacrifice fly to make it 10-5 in the seventh, it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.

The Mets had their chances but left multiple runners on base throughout the game. They notably stranded the bases loaded in the third inning, with Jeff McNeil striking out at a critical moment. Ultimately, the Dodgers’ offense proved too potent for the Mets to handle, concluding their playoff run.
