The Mets’ impressive playoff run came to an end in Los Angeles as they were defeated by the Dodgers 10-5 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday night at Dodger Stadium. Despite several thrilling moments during their journey, including memorable performances from Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso, the Mets could not secure a spot in the World Series.
The Dodgers, who topped the major leagues with 98 wins during the regular season, proved to be too strong for the Mets. This outcome sets the stage for a highly anticipated World Series matchup between the Dodgers and the Yankees, which is set to commence on Friday night.
After a spectacular 12-6 victory on Friday that allowed them to force a Game 6, the Mets found themselves in a challenging position early in the Sunday night game. The Dodgers surged ahead with five runs off pitcher Sean Manaea, highlighted by Tommy Edman’s two-run double and two-run home run, establishing a commanding 6-1 lead by the third inning.
Although the Mets responded with a two-run homer from Mark Vientos that closed the gap to 6-3 in the fourth inning, they struggled to mount a comeback. The Dodgers further extended their lead in the eighth inning, scoring three runs against reliever Kodai Senga, including an RBI double from Mookie Betts.
The Mets did manage to score once more to make it 7-4, but ultimately, they could not recover. They struggled throughout the game with runners in scoring position, stranding 11 runners over the course of six innings.
The Mets’ season will be remembered for its energy and the renewed hope it brought, but it ended short of the ultimate goal of reaching the World Series.
