Samuela Tawase, a 28-year-old man, has admitted to charges stemming from an incident of sacrilege at the Samabula Shiv Temple in Suva. The offense, which occurred on July 11, involved Tawase throwing objects at the sacred site, leading to charges of sacrilege among others.
Following his first court appearance, Tawase underwent a mental health evaluation conducted by the St Giles Psychiatric Evaluation Department. The assessment confirmed his ability to understand the court proceedings and to enter a plea.
In today’s court session, Tawase pleaded guilty before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad. He has been remanded in custody and is set to return to court in 14 days, where a summary of facts outlining the details of the offenses will be presented.
