Efforts to potentially shorten the life sentences of Erik and Lyle Menendez have stalled following the recent dismissal of Los Angeles County’s top prosecutor. A judge announced that the resentencing hearing, originally set for December 11, will be postponed, allowing the new district attorney, Nathan Hochman, time to familiarize himself with the case.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Michael Jesic expressed a need for additional time to consider the recommendations, which includes a suggestion from the former district attorney, George Gascón, to reduce the brothers’ sentences to 50 years to life.
