Megan Khang eyes home-ground glory at the FM Championship at TPC Boston

Hailing from Rockland and serving as an FM ambassador, Megan Khang is gearing up for the second annual FM Championship with one clear goal: win. After finishing 35th in last year’s event, the LPGA star is embracing the home-field backdrop in Massachusetts where she can stay with family during the tournament.

Khang says the comfort of being close to home helps, but she won’t read it as an advantage or a distraction—only as a familiar routine that keeps her grounded. “I’m gonna feel a little pressure with the home crowd, but it’s something that I don’t really want to look at as pressure,” she said. “But just (as something) like I’m excited to have this opportunity again to play in front of everyone. There’s nothing like playing in front of your home state.”

The crowd energy from last year’s edition—more than 25,000 fans over the week—left a lasting impression on Khang, who often stopped to sign autographs and greet supporters with a wave as she walked the course. She notes the significance of a strong turnout for women’s professional golf in New England, saying Massachusetts hadn’t always had pro women’s golf, and she’s proud to help bring the sport back to the region.

“I wasn’t around when Massachusetts had professional women’s golf,” Khang reflected. “But to be able to kind of almost do a full circle where the LPGA comes back and we get to bring women’s golf back to the New England area, it’s a huge honor.”

Khang, 27, joined the LPGA Tour in 2016 and has accumulated 92 career top-five finishes. Her resume also features a major triumph—the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open, decided in a playoff over Ko Jin-young.

Entering the FM Championship, Khang is careful not to load up the week with pressure. Her stated aim remains to compete at the highest level and enjoy the moment, with the ultimate dream of lifting the trophy at the end of the week. “I hope to raise the trophy at the end of the week,” she said, “but really (I’m) just going to take it in day by day because I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself where it’s scary.”

What to watch for this week is whether Khang can translate home-course comfort into another strong performance and whether the Massachusetts audience can again rally behind a rising era for women’s golf in the region. The FM Championship continues to illustrate the sport’s growth and Khang’s ongoing role as a leading ambassador.

Summary note: Khang’s return to Massachusetts for the FM Championship highlights both her competitive drive and the rising enthusiasm for women’s golf in New England, with the home crowd adding a special atmosphere as she pursues the tournament title.
