The County of Santa Clara and Alameda County Public Health Departments have issued a warning regarding a confirmed measles case linked to international travel. A press conference is scheduled to inform residents about prevention measures after potential exposures were identified at three locations in the Bay Area.
The individual, who returned to the Bay Area in May, is currently isolating at home and did not require hospitalization. Public health officials noted that there may have been exposure at H Mart in San Jose on May 21, Starbucks in Newark on May 23, and Trader Joe’s in Milpitas on May 25.
Those who visited these locations during the specified times are encouraged to monitor for symptoms, which can include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that typically appears 10 to 21 days following exposure. The public is strongly advised to contact a healthcare provider prior to visiting in case symptoms arise to ensure appropriate measures are taken.
To better equip the community, a press conference will take place on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Santa Clara Public Health Department office in San Jose. Key officials, including Dr. Sarah Rudman, Acting Public Health Officer, and Dr. Kavita Trivedi, Director of Clinical Guidance and Communicable Disease Controller will offer information on prevention strategies and vaccinations.
This proactive approach aims not only to address the immediate health risk but also to strengthen community awareness about the importance of vaccinations and symptom recognition. By disseminating this information, local health agencies hope to mitigate any further outbreaks and encourage residents to stay informed and vigilant.
