McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks, according to a memo cited by Bloomberg. The promotion, which initially launched on June 25, will now be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s locations across the United States, although the specific duration of the offer may differ by restaurant, with some extending it until August.
This initiative comes during a time when consumers are facing rising food costs, especially in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 bundle has proven to be successful for the fast-food giant. Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customer visits immediately following the launch of the meal deal, indicating its popularity among diners.
In response to McDonald’s success, other fast casual chains are reacting by introducing their own competitive offers. Arby’s has rolled out a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has also announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
Burger King previously stated its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s option, and has recently introduced new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is also partaking in the discount trend, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
