McDonald’s Meal Deal Extension: What It Means for Fast Food Prices

McDonald’s has decided to keep its $5 meal deal available for several more weeks after the initial four-week promotion, which began on June 25. According to Bloomberg, a memo indicates that a majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. will continue to offer this bundle, with approximately 93% of restaurants participating. The duration of the extension may vary depending on the location, with some franchises planning to maintain the deal until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, especially in fast casual dining, this promotion has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in visitors to the chain’s restaurants shortly after the meal deal was introduced, indicating that the offer is appealing to customers.

The popularity of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual chains to respond with their own promotions. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell also announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, along with its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Earlier in May, Burger King stated its $5 “Your Way Meal” would go on longer than McDonald’s promotion, as it also prepared to roll out new items within its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has joined the competitive landscape with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
