McDonald’s Meal Deal Extended: What It Means for Fast Food Rivals

Fast food giant McDonald’s has announced the extension of its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo referenced by Bloomberg, most U.S.-based McDonald’s locations will continue to offer this promotion, which originally started on June 25, beyond the initial four-week period.

The $5 meal bundle will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants across the nation, with specific duration varying by location. Some outlets have chosen to maintain the deal through August.

Given the current economic climate, where consumers are grappling with rising food prices, particularly in the fast-casual dining sector, this McDonald’s bundle is proving to be beneficial for the company.

Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicates that the introduction of the bundle has led to a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations, demonstrating the promotion’s appeal to consumers.

The success of McDonald’s meal deal has prompted other fast-casual dining chains to respond with their own competitive offers. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, in addition to its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer duration than McDonald’s offering, and it also plans to introduce new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Furthermore, Wendy’s has joined the trend with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
