McDonald’s Meal Deal Extended: What It Means for Fast Food Rivals

Fast food powerhouse McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks.

According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, a significant number of McDonald’s locations across the United States have agreed to continue the promotion that initially launched on June 25 for four weeks. The meal bundle will remain available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some franchises opting to extend it until August.

This move comes at a time when consumers are feeling the pinch from rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 meal deal appears to be positively impacting McDonald’s, as a recent study by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai showed a marked increase in the number of customers visiting its outlets shortly after the promotion began.

The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual chains to react. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has also joined the fray, offering a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s offering. The franchise also hinted at new menu items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is also participating in the promotional push, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
