McDonald’s Meal Deal Extended: A Response to Rising Food Prices?

McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, responding to consumer demand amid rising food prices. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, a majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. agreed to prolong the promotion, which originally began on June 25.

The deal will be available in approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although specific end dates for the promotion may vary by location, with some extending it until August.

As consumers face tighter budgets due to increasing costs, the $5 bundle has proven effective for McDonald’s, contributing to an uptick in foot traffic at its restaurants. Analytics firm Placer.ai reported a significant increase in customers visiting McDonald’s outlets shortly after the meal deal was introduced.

The success of McDonald’s promotion has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own competitive deals. Arby’s has rolled out a $9 bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Burger King previously announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be available for a longer term than McDonald’s offer, as well as introducing new items on its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and has introduced a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
