McDonald’s Keeps $5 Meal Deal Amid Rising Food Prices: What’s Next?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have opted to keep the promotion running beyond its initial four-week rollout that began on June 25.

The meal bundle will continue to be available at approximately 93% of locations across the country, although the duration of the promotion may differ from one restaurant to another, with some choosing to continue the offer until August.

This decision comes as consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, making the McDonald’s deal appealing. A recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated that the introduction of the meal bundle led to a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants, demonstrating its effectiveness in attracting customers.

The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual chains to respond with their own promotions. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has also joined the competition by offering a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, in addition to its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Burger King announced in late May that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s offer. The chain has also unveiled new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has responded with a $3 breakfast bundle and has started offering a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
