McDonald’s Extends Popular $5 Meal Deal: What’s Behind the Move?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks due to its success among customers.

According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the United States agreed to prolong the promotion, which originally kicked off on June 25 for a four-week period. The deal will continue to be available at around 93% of locations nationwide, although the specific duration of the promotion may differ from one restaurant to another, with some planning to offer it through August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast-casual dining sector, the McDonald’s meal bundle has proven to be beneficial for the chain. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a noticeable increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the introduction of the deal, indicating its popularity among patrons.

This development has prompted other fast-casual dining chains to respond with their own promotional offers. Arby’s has launched a $9 bundle, while Sonic has introduced a new permanent value menu priced at $1.99. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s deal. Furthermore, the company announced the introduction of new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s also joined the competitive landscape with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
