McDonald’s has announced that it will keep its $5 meal deal available for a few more weeks, following a successful initial four-week promotion that began on June 25. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, a majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to extend the promotion, which will be accessible at about 93% of its restaurants nationwide, although the duration may vary by location.
The decision comes as consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, making McDonald’s affordable bundle appealing. Data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai suggests that the promotion has significantly increased customer visits to McDonald’s outlets shortly after its launch, indicating strong consumer interest.
The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual chains to introduce their own promotions. For instance, Arby’s has launched a $9 bundle, while Sonic has added a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell is also participating, offering a $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu.
In a competitive response, Burger King has extended its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle beyond the McDonald’s promotion period and introduced new items within its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has joined the fray as well, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
