McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What’s Next for Fast Food Value?

McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, as reported by Bloomberg based on a memo from the fast-food chain. Most U.S. McDonald’s locations have agreed to continue the promotion beyond its initial four-week run that began on June 25.

The discounted meal will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the exact duration of the promotion will differ by location, with some franchises extending it until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in fast casual dining, this meal deal has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Data from foot traffic analysis company Placer.ai indicated that the launch of the bundle led to a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations.

The success of this promotion has prompted other fast casual dining chains to introduce their own value deals. For instance, Arby’s has rolled out a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell also announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box and continued its $5 Taco Discovery Box in June.

In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s deal and announced new items for its “Fiery Menu.” Likewise, Wendy’s has introduced a $3 breakfast bundle along with a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
