McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What’s Next for Fast Food Promotions?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo obtained by Bloomberg. This promotion, which initially began on June 25, has received support from the majority of McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. and will continue to be available in approximately 93% of locations nationwide. However, the duration of the offer will differ from one restaurant to another, with some continuing it through August.

The timing of this extension comes as consumers are facing rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 meal deal has proven effective for McDonald’s, as evidenced by a significant increase in foot traffic reported by Placer.ai soon after the deal’s launch.

In response to McDonald’s success, other fast casual chains are also rolling out their own promotions. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box along with its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Meanwhile, Burger King has stated that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle will remain available for a longer period than McDonald’s offering. In addition, the chain is introducing new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is participating as well, with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
