McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What’s Next for Fast Food?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks.

According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the United States have agreed to continue the promotion, which originally began on June 25. The offer will be available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, though the duration of the promotion may vary depending on the specific location, with some extending it until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining segment, this bundle has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai showed a significant increase in customers visiting McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the promotion was introduced, indicating its effectiveness in attracting consumers.

The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own promotions. Arby’s has launched a $9 bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King stated it would extend its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle beyond the McDonald’s promotion, and announced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the competition with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
