McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What’s Behind the Surge?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo reported by Bloomberg. This promotion, which was originally scheduled to run for four weeks starting on June 25, has been agreed to by the majority of McDonald’s locations in the United States.

The meal deal will remain available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, though the length of the promotion may differ by location. Some restaurants have chosen to keep the deal available until August.

As consumers continue to face high food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s bundle is proving beneficial for the company. Data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicates that there was a notable increase in customer visits to McDonald’s following the launch of the $5 meal deal, suggesting it is appealing to customers.

The success of this promotion has prompted other fast casual dining chains to introduce their own deals. For instance, Arby’s has rolled out a $9 meal bundle and Sonic has updated its menu to include a permanent $1.99 value option. Taco Bell has announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, in addition to maintaining its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In May, Burger King stated that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be extended beyond McDonald’s offering, while also planning to introduce new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Similarly, Wendy’s has joined the trend with a $3 breakfast bundle and has introduced a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
