McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What’s Behind the Move?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, as reported by Bloomberg, which referenced a memo from the fast-food leader. The promotion, which initially launched on June 25 for four weeks, is now set to continue at approximately 93% of McDonald’s locations across the U.S., though the duration may differ by restaurant, with some extending the offer through August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s deal has proven beneficial for the company. Data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicates that the introduction of this promotion significantly increased customer visits to restaurants soon after it was rolled out.

The success of McDonald’s deal has also prompted competitors to respond with their own promotions. Arby’s introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has created a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box along with its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu in June.

In recent months, Burger King mentioned that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than McDonald’s deal and introduced new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has responded with a $3 breakfast bundle and has also launched a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
