Fast food leader McDonald’s has announced that its popular $5 meal deal will be available for a few additional weeks.
According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, a significant number of U.S. McDonald’s locations have chosen to extend the promotion, which initially started on June 25 and was meant to last four weeks. The meal deal will continue to be available in about 93% of restaurants across the country, although the exact duration of the promotion may vary by location, with some franchises opting to keep it until August.
This move comes as many consumers are grappling with rising food costs, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 bundle has proven effective for McDonald’s, as it has led to increased customer traffic. A recent analysis from foot traffic analytics company Placer.ai indicated a marked uptick in visits to McDonald’s following the implementation of the meal deal, highlighting its appeal among customers.
The success of this promotion has prompted other fast casual dining brands to respond with their own competitive offers. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. In June, Taco Bell announced the limited-time availability of a $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would exceed the duration of McDonald’s offering, and further earlier that month, it introduced new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has also engaged in the competitive pricing, presenting a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
