McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, responding to consumer demand amid rising food prices. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, a majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to keep the promotion active beyond the initial four-week timeframe, which began on June 25.

The meal deal will continue to be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location. Some outlets are planning to offer the deal until August.

This move is particularly timely as many consumers are facing financial challenges due to increased prices in the fast casual dining sector. The promotion has already resulted in a significant uptick in customer traffic, as highlighted by analytics firm Placer.ai, which noted a boost in visits to McDonald’s restaurants right after the meal deal was introduced.

The success of McDonald’s promotion has prompted a competitive response from other fast casual dining chains. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has rolled out a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In addition, Burger King recently stated that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would remain available for a longer period than McDonald’s. The chain is also adding new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has introduced a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
