Fast food leader McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks.
A report from Bloomberg, based on a memo from the company, reveals that most McDonald’s locations in the United States have agreed to continue this promotion, which originally started on June 25 and was intended to run for just four weeks.
The deal will remain available at around 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration might differ by location. Some franchises plan to offer the deal through August.
As consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, this meal bundle has proven beneficial for McDonald’s.
Recent analysis by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicates that the chain experienced a noticeable uptick in customer visits shortly after launching the $5 deal, demonstrating its appeal among shoppers.
The success of this promotion has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own value offerings. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has implemented a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box available for a limited time, alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
In late May, Burger King announced that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” would extend beyond McDonald’s initial promotion. Earlier that month, they also had revealed plans to add more items to their “Fiery Menu.”
Wendy’s is also joining the competitive pricing landscape, rolling out a $3 breakfast bundle and introducing the “Biggie Bag,” a $5 combo meal.
