McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What This Means for Fast Food Chains

McDonald’s has announced that it will extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to continue this promotion, which originally launched on June 25 for four weeks.

The $5 meal bundle will remain available at about 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the promotion’s duration may differ by location. Some franchises are planning to extend the deal until August.

With consumers facing high food prices, especially in the fast-casual dining sector, the meal bundle has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the deal was introduced, indicating it has struck a chord with diners.

This success has prompted other fast-casual chains to respond with their own promotions. Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. In June, Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box to complement its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s offering. They also announced the addition of new items to their “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has rolled out a $3 breakfast bundle and introduced a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
