McDonald’s is prolonging its $5 meal deal for several more weeks, responding to current consumer demand amidst rising food prices. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, a significant number of U.S. McDonald’s locations have opted to extend the promotion, which initially started on June 25 and was scheduled for just four weeks.

The extended offer will be available at approximately 93% of the chain’s restaurants nationwide, though the specific duration may differ by location, with some extending the promotion until August.

As consumers struggle with high food costs, especially in the fast-casual dining sector, McDonald’s strategy appears to be paying off. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai noted a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations following the introduction of the deal, indicating its popularity among diners.

The success of the $5 meal deal has prompted competitor chains to react with their own promotions. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent value menu featuring items for $1.99. Taco Bell is also participating in the competition with a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box and a $5 Taco Discovery Box, alongside its Cravings Value Menu.

In May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be extended beyond McDonald’s promotion, alongside new menu items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is also participating in the promotional trend, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and recently debuting the $5 “Biggie Bag.”
