McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What It Means for Fast Food Competition

McDonald’s has announced an extension of its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a report by Bloomberg, which references a memo from the fast-food chain. Initially offered for four weeks starting June 25, this promotion will continue at approximately 93% of McDonald’s locations across the United States, with the duration of the offer varying by individual restaurant, with some locations extending it through August.

As consumers face rising food prices and tighter budgets, the meal deal has been successful for McDonald’s. Analytics company Placer.ai noted a significant increase in foot traffic to McDonald’s restaurants following the launch of the deal, indicating strong consumer interest.

The continued promotion has prompted other fast casual dining establishments to respond with their own competitive offers. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has rolled out a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box, in addition to its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Burger King has claimed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle will remain available longer than the McDonald’s promotion, alongside new items in its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the competition with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
