McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What Does This Mean for Fast Food?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks.

According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, a majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to continue the promotion, which initially launched on June 25 for a four-week period.

The $5 meal bundle will be available at approximately 93% of locations nationwide, though the duration of the offer may vary by restaurant, with some opting to keep it going until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, especially at fast casual dining spots, the McDonald’s deal has proven to be beneficial for the company.

Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai noted that following the introduction of the bundle, McDonald’s experienced a significant increase in customer visits, indicating that the promotion has been well-received.

The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast casual chains to respond with their own offers. Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Burger King mentioned earlier this year that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would have a longer duration than McDonald’s offer, and they are adding new items to their “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
