McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: What Does It Mean for Fast Food?

Fast food leader McDonald’s is set to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to reports, a majority of U.S. McDonald’s franchises have agreed to keep the promotion active beyond its original four-week period that began on June 25.

The meal deal will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s locations nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may vary by individual restaurant, with some locations extending offers into August.

As consumers face rising food costs, especially in the fast-casual dining sector, the McDonald’s deal is proving beneficial for the brand. A recent analysis from Placer.ai indicated that the launch of the bundle led to a noticeable increase in foot traffic at McDonald’s restaurants, highlighting its appeal to customers.

This successful deal has prompted other fast-casual dining chains to respond with their own promotions. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has implemented a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box and continues to offer its $5 Taco Discovery Box alongside its Cravings Value Menu.

Additionally, in late May, Burger King mentioned that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would continue beyond McDonald’s offer and introduced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also jumped into the promotional fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
