McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal Amidst Rising Food Prices

McDonald’s is extending its $5 meal deal for a few more weeks, according to a memo cited by Bloomberg. The popular promotion, which started on June 25, is now being offered by a majority of McDonald’s locations across the United States, with about 93% of restaurants participating. The duration of the offer will vary by location, with some extending the promotion until August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in fast casual dining, the $5 bundle has been beneficial for McDonald’s. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a noticeable increase in customers at McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the promotion was introduced, indicating that the deal has struck a chord with consumers.

This move has prompted competitors in the fast casual dining sector to introduce their own promotions in response. Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has established a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, along with its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Additionally, in late May, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would remain available longer than the McDonald’s deal, with plans to introduce new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the competitive landscape, offering a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
