McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal Amid Rising Restaurant Competition

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks, following a favorable reception from customers. According to Bloomberg, a memo from the company indicated that most McDonald’s locations in the United States voted to continue the promotion beyond its original four-week period that began on June 25.

This meal bundle will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the offer may vary by location. Some franchises have chosen to keep the deal active until August.

With many consumers facing high food prices, particularly in the fast-casual dining sector, this promotion has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Research from foot traffic analytics company Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s outlets shortly after the introduction of the bundle, highlighting its popularity among diners.

The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted other fast-casual restaurant chains to respond with their own promotions. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced earlier this month a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box in addition to its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In a competitive response, Burger King declared that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s promotion, and the company is also introducing new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has joined the mix by offering a $3 breakfast bundle and has rolled out a $5 combo named the “Biggie Bag.”
