McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal Amid Rising Food Prices – What’s Next?

McDonald’s has decided to extend its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, the majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. agreed to prolong the promotion beyond its original four-week period that started on June 25.

The meal deal will remain available at about 93% of McDonald’s outlets nationwide, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some restaurants opting to keep it until August.

This move comes as many consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 meal deal has proven beneficial for McDonald’s, as recent analytics from foot traffic firm Placer.ai indicated a noticeable increase in customer visits to restaurants shortly after the promotion was introduced. This surge suggests that the offer is connecting well with diners.

The popularity of McDonald’s deal has also prompted other fast casual dining chains to enter the competition with their own promotions. For example, Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, and Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell has announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box in addition to its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s promotion. Additionally, the chain has introduced new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has participated by offering a $3 breakfast bundle along with a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
