McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal Amid Rising Food Prices and Tough Competition

McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal for several more weeks, according to a memo from the fast food chain. The promotion, which originally began on June 25, will now be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s locations across the United States. The extension of the deal may vary by location, with some restaurants choosing to continue offering it through August.

As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the $5 meal deal has proven to be successful for McDonald’s. Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customers visiting McDonald’s restaurants shortly after the promotion was launched.

This move has also prompted rival fast casual dining chains to respond with their own promotions. For example, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent value menu with items priced at $1.99. Taco Bell has also joined the pricing competition, offering a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box in addition to its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King announced that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available for an extended period, alongside new menu items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Meanwhile, Wendy’s has rolled out a $3 breakfast bundle and has introduced a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag” in response to the competitive landscape.
