Fast food leader McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a recent memo, the majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to continue the promotion beyond its initial four-week duration, which began on June 25.
The meal bundle will remain available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, although the duration of the offer may differ by location, with some chains planning to keep the deal until August.
This move comes at a time when consumers are feeling the strain of rising food costs, particularly in fast-casual dining. McDonald’s offering appears to be paying off, as analytics firm Placer.ai reported a significant increase in foot traffic at McDonald’s locations following the launch of the deal, indicating strong consumer interest.
Competitors in the fast-casual sector are taking notice and are responding with their own promotions. Arby’s has introduced a $9 bundle, while Sonic has rolled out a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced a $7 Luxe Cravings Box as a limited-time offer, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
Additionally, Burger King has decided to extend its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle beyond the timeframe of McDonald’s offer, and has introduced new items under its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo known as the “Biggie Bag.”
