Fast food leader McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal for several more weeks.
This announcement comes as McDonald’s faces its first lawsuit related to the E. coli outbreak connected to its Quarter Pounder. According to Bloomberg, which referenced a company memo, a majority of McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have opted to continue the promotion beyond the initial four-week period that started on June 25.
The meal bundle will still be available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide, with individual locations having some discretion regarding how long they will maintain the offer. Some establishments plan to keep the deal in place until August.
As consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, McDonald’s promotional bundle is proving to be a successful strategy for the company.
Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated a significant increase in visitors to McDonald’s restaurants right after the launch of this promotion, highlighting its appeal to customers.
In response to McDonald’s successful deal, other fast casual dining chains are launching their own promotions. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, and Sonic has rolled out a permanent value menu priced at $1.99. Taco Bell is also in the mix with a $7 Luxe Cravings Box and a continuing $5 Taco Discovery Box, along with its Cravings Value Menu.
Meanwhile, Burger King announced that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would be extended beyond the McDonald’s offer, while also introducing new items through its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has entered the competition as well, with a $3 breakfast bundle and a newly unveiled $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
