McDonald’s has decided to extend its $5 meal deal promotion for several more weeks. This announcement comes amidst a challenging period for the fast food chain, as it faces its first lawsuit related to an E. coli outbreak linked to its Quarter Pounder burgers.
According to a Bloomberg report referencing a company memo, most McDonald’s locations in the U.S. have agreed to keep the popular promotion alive beyond its initial four-week launch, which started on June 25. The deal will be available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, with specific durations varying by location. Some franchises have chosen to continue the promotion through August.
As consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly at fast casual dining establishments, this bundle has proven effective for McDonald’s. Following the launch of the promotion, foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported a notable increase in customer visits to McDonald’s locations, indicating that the deal is appealing to diners.
In response to McDonald’s successful promotion, other fast casual dining brands are adjusting their strategies and introducing their own value deals. Arby’s has rolled out a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced its $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, alongside ongoing offerings like the $5 Taco Discovery Box and its Cravings Value Menu.
Meanwhile, Burger King plans to extend its own $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle, aiming to outlast McDonald’s offer. Earlier in June, the chain also introduced new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has entered the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and has introduced another $5 option known as the “Biggie Bag.”
