McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: A Game Changer for Fast Food?

McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to Bloomberg, which referenced a company memo, most U.S. McDonald’s locations will continue the promotion beyond its initial four-week run that started on June 25.

The deal will be available at about 93% of McDonald’s restaurants across the country, though the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some choosing to keep the offer available until August.

As consumers grapple with rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, the McDonald’s meal deal has proven to be beneficial for the company. Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai revealed a significant increase in customer visits shortly after the deal was introduced, suggesting that it has struck a chord with diners.

The success of McDonald’s promotion has also prompted other fast casual restaurant chains to respond with their own deals. Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, and Sonic is now offering a permanent value menu with items priced at $1.99. Taco Bell announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box in June, alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Burger King revealed earlier this month that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would last longer than McDonald’s current offer. Additionally, the chain has introduced new items within its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the fray, rolling out a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
