McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: A Game Changer Amid Inflation?

McDonald’s has announced an extension of its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks. According to a memo from the fast food chain, the majority of its U.S. locations have agreed to continue the promotion, which originally launched on June 25 for a four-week period.

The meal bundle will remain available at approximately 93% of McDonald’s restaurants across the country, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some franchises choosing to extend the offer until August.

This move comes as consumers face high food prices, making the McDonald’s bundle an attractive option. Foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai reported that the introduction of the deal led to a significant increase in customer visits to McDonald’s restaurants, indicating that the promotion has been well-received.

The success of the deal has prompted other fast casual dining chains to respond with their own promotions. For instance, Arby’s has launched a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has introduced a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell announced in June that it would offer a $7 Luxe Cravings Box for a limited time, in addition to its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

Meanwhile, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle would be available for a longer period than McDonald’s offering. They also announced the addition of new items to their “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is also participating in the price wars with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
