McDonald’s Extends $5 Meal Deal: A Delicious Strategy Amid Price Hikes

McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks, according to a memo obtained by Bloomberg. The fast-food chain’s promotion, which initially launched on June 25, has received backing from a majority of its U.S.-based outlets, allowing it to be available at approximately 93% of restaurants nationwide. The duration of the promotion may vary by location, with some stores choosing to extend it until August.

This deal comes at a time when consumers are grappling with higher food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, and the bundle has proven beneficial for McDonald’s. Recent data from foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai indicated a significant increase in customers visiting McDonald’s restaurants following the introduction of the bundle, suggesting that the promotion is appealing to consumers.

The success of McDonald’s promotion has prompted other fast casual chains to participate in the competitive pricing game. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a temporary $7 Luxe Cravings Box, alongside its $5 Taco Discovery Box and existing Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King revealed that its $5 “Your Way Meal” would have a longer availability compared to the McDonald’s deal, and it announced the addition of new items as part of its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s is also joining the fray with a $3 breakfast bundle and a new $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
