McDonald’s $5 Meal Deal Stays: What’s the Secret to Its Success?

McDonald’s is extending its popular $5 meal deal for several more weeks as part of a successful promotion that began on June 25. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most U.S. McDonald’s locations will continue to offer the deal, although the specific duration may vary by restaurant, with some choosing to keep it available until August.

This decision aligns with current economic trends, as many consumers are feeling the strain of rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector. The $5 meal bundle has proven to be effective in attracting customers, as noted by foot traffic analytics firm Placer.ai, which reported a significant increase in visitors to McDonald’s locations shortly after the promotion began.

The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted competitors to respond with their own value offerings. Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, and Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell also announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box alongside its existing $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.

In late May, Burger King indicated that its own $5 “Your Way Meal” would be available longer than the McDonald’s deal. Additionally, Wendy’s has been active in the value menu arena, introducing a $3 breakfast bundle and the $5 “Biggie Bag” combo.
