McDonald’s has announced the extension of its popular $5 meal deal for a few more weeks. According to a memo reported by Bloomberg, most U.S. locations of the fast-food chain have agreed to continue the promotion beyond its initial four-week period, which started on June 25.
The $5 meal bundle will be available at about 93% of McDonald’s restaurants across the country, although the duration of the promotion may differ by location, with some restaurants extending it until August.
As consumers face rising food prices, particularly in the fast casual dining sector, McDonald’s offer has proven beneficial for the company. Foot traffic analytics from Placer.ai indicate that after the launch of the meal deal, McDonald’s experienced a significant increase in customer visits, highlighting the effectiveness of the promotion.
The success of McDonald’s deal has prompted competitors in the fast casual dining space to respond with their own promotions. For instance, Arby’s has introduced a $9 meal bundle, while Sonic has launched a permanent $1.99 value menu. Taco Bell recently announced a limited-time $7 Luxe Cravings Box, in addition to its $5 Taco Discovery Box and Cravings Value Menu.
Meanwhile, in late May, Burger King extended its own $5 “Your Way Meal” bundle to rival McDonald’s, and added new items to its “Fiery Menu.” Wendy’s has also joined the competition with a $3 breakfast bundle and a $5 combo called the “Biggie Bag.”
